Syd's Place, Croes Atti Centre, Flint

Syd's Place, Croes Atti Centre in Flint is a specialist day service and resource centre for younger people with dementia. The centre opened in 2008, and was the first of its kind in Wales.

Syd's Place is open to anyone with a diagnosis of young onset dementia, and supports people to have a meaningful and varied programme of activities and outings, and opportunities that aim to promote and maintain independence and skills. People also benefit from the social contact and emotional support of being with people in similar situations.

The service is managed by Flintshire Social Services under the Service for Younger People with Dementia. Syd's Place is staffed by a trained and experienced care team, and supported by the social worker for younger people with dementia. Opening hours are from 10am until 4pm, Monday to Friday.

Service Aims:

• Supporting people to maintain their independence, leisure and social skills through planning and engaging with a range of chosen activities.
• Supporting people to maintain and develop social contacts and reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation
• Supporting carers of the people using Syd's Place to have a break from their caring role.
• To support people to achieve their aims and goals, and to ensure that people’s needs are met by facilitating access to other community based services and resources as required.

How to access the service:

Referrals can be made by anyone from Health services, other community based services or by self-referral. Following an assessment by the social worker, the person, if eligible, would be supported to explore the opportunity of attending the group. A review will be held 6 weeks after the person starts to attend to make sure things are working out for the person.

Will there be a charge?

Syd's Place is a chargeable service. The Social Services charging policy will be used to assess an individual’s charge. A small charge is made for provision of a meal.
