Changing School during the School Year (In–Year Application)

In year applications are when you want to move your child from one school to another part way through their time at a school.

Moving into Flintshire

Some schools in Flintshire are already full and moving into an area does not mean that a place will be available at the nearest school. Please email us on admissions@flintshire.gov.uk for the most up to date information about school places.

Changing schools within Flintshire

Changing your child's school during the year is a big decision. There may be some situations that cannot be avoided, for example moving house.

You may be considering changing school because you or your child are unhappy with your current school. If you have concerns or are experiencing difficulties with your current school, you are strongly advised to discuss this with the school.

You should carefully consider the effect of changing schools. Any change could disrupt your child's education, particularly if your child is in secondary school where a move may disrupt their studies and exam results.

Before you make an application, we recommend you take a look at the school’s website to find out more information, including the structure of the school day, uniform requirements and the subjects offered. We also recommend that you read Flintshire’s Guide to Education.

For all In-Year Requests we do complete a Pupil Information Form. There are two parts to this form – Section A is completed by the applicant to ascertain the details regarding the transfer, and Section B is sent to your child's current or previous school for them to complete and return to us. Your application cannot be processed until we receive a completed Section A form from the applicant and a completed Section B form from the current / previous school. This helps ensure a smooth transition to their new school.
