Flintshire Trainee – Business Administration - Benefits Service

What the Service does:

  • The Benefits service is a busy, front line service which administers a variety of benefits and grants, this includes Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Free School Meals, Uniform Grants, Blue Badges, Discretionary Housing Payments, Isolation Payments and various one-off Welsh Government Grants.
  • We are responsible for assessing eligibility and awarding these benefits and grants. We also maintain the software systems for processing some of these grants and recover overpayments of Housing Benefit.
  • We provide help, guidance and welfare advice to customers.
  • We help customers review their household income and expenditure to ensure they are receiving all they are entitled to.

 What you will get involved with:

  • Deal directly with customers providing guidance and answering their queries, on the telephone and by email or letter.
  • Assess eligibility for, and where appropriate award, various grants and benefits.

Flintshire Trainee – Business Administration - Capital Works Team Admin Apprentice

What the team do:

  • Ensure all the Council’s homes are up to the Welsh Government standard.
  • Support the whole team by keeping records updated and then – making plans for future works.

Flintshire Trainee – Business Administration - North East Wales Archives

What the team does:

  • Collects historical records relating to North East Wales, and preserves them for future generations.
  • Encourages people to come to our search-rooms and use the records in person.
  • Does research and makes copies of documents for people who are unable to visit.

Flintshire Trainee - Business Admin – Housing Capital Works

What the team do:

  • This is a small general team who provide administrative and clerical support to the wider Housing teams,  based in County Offices, Flint
  • Providing support to our 109 Trades who do not have access to a computer and ensure communications are sent out to all the Trades when necessary.  Also first point of call when Trades come into the offices with queries.
  • Speak to Tenants on a daily basis in relation to booking appointments for Gas and Electrical Servicing for our Council properties.

What you will get involved with:

  • Logging incoming mail and distributing to all Sections within Housing Services.  Also responsible for collection of outgoing mail and ensuring it is in the Post Room ready to be sent out.
  • Assist rest of team in taking calls from Tenants and making appointments for Gas and Electrical Servicing in our Council properties.
  • Using spreadsheets to log and monitor Trade’s annual leave and sickness absence and filing away correspondence on personnel files.
  • Scan and file away Gas and Electrical Certificates so we have a record of all services completed, also assist with archiving of files.
  • Give out Petty Cash to Trades as and when needed and log on spreadsheets, ensuring signatures are obtained for money being given out.

Flintshire Trainee – Business Administration - Employee Service Centre

What the team do:

  • Administer the HR & Payroll service for the Council and external organisations
  • Follow policy, employment and payroll/pension legislation and best practice.
  • Processes all aspects of the employee life-cycle from recruitment to leavers this includes: applications, interviews, references, medical checks, DBS checks, issuing contracts, salary payments and leavers

What the team do:

  • Responsible for the administration and collection of Council Tax, Business Rates, Sundry Debts and Housing and Garage rents totalling over £225 million per annum.
  • Speak to taxpayers, ratepayers and tenants on a daily basis over the phone to provide help and support to pay their council tax, business rates, council rent and garage rents on time.

Flintshire Trainee – Business Administration - Policy and Social Value

What the team do:

  • The team increase social value by agreeing community benefits, from companies, who provide goods and services to the Council.
  • Social Value benefits can include: community volunteering, donating money to local charitable causes and/or community projects, developing local parks and green spaces, planting trees, lowering carbon emissions and offering jobs, skills and training to local people, amongst others.
  • We provide support to Council Officers who buy goods, works or services for the Council to help them include social value returns for the benefit of local communities.
  • We also support suppliers to use the Council’s systems and monitor companies to ensure  they deliver what they committed as part of the legal contract
  • The broader team supports, policy and compliance, i.e. for Welsh Language Standards;

What the team do:

What the team do:

  • There is a Youth Justice Service (sometimes called a Youth Offending Team or YOT) in every local authority in England and Wales. In Flintshire, the Youth Justice Service is based in Mold.
  • Flintshire Youth Justice Service works together with families and other agencies to make sure each young person gets access to the help they need. The primary role of the youth justice service is to prevent offending by children and young people
  • As part of Flintshire Youth Justice, Sorted are the team that works with young people who may be involved with drugs or alcohol, and offers programmes of education to schools and colleges.

What the team do:

The Contact Centre is the first point of contact for many people when dealing with the Council. Our aim is to make things easy for customers when contacting the Council via phone, email, web form and in the future live chat. We do this by:

  • Answering calls from our customers - helping to solve their queries at the first point of contact.
  • Maintaining and updating customer account details.
  • Processing emails and online enquiry forms / applications for various Council Services.

What the team do:

What the team do:

Flintshire Trainee - Streetscene - Civil Engineer Technical

What the team do:

  • The Technical team provide wide ranging engineering and technical support and advice to all of the services operational within Streetscene & Transportation
  • The team support on  Highway Maintenance and improvement works, Drainage, Transportation, Active Travel, Rail, Structures, Road Safety, Traffic, Car Parking and Environmental Enforcement, NMWTRA trunk road agency work, Grounds Maintenance, Highways Asset Management, Streetlighting, Waste Collection and Recycling and are required to implement Welsh Government schemes and targets.

What you will get involved with:

  • Working as part of the team to provide support on technical aspects of construction and highways design, engineering, project management and problem solving.
  • Assist and work alongside the current Technical officers to carry out structural and bridge inspections across the county, ensuring accurate records and systems are maintained.

Flintshire Trainee - Highway Construction – Streetscene and Transportation

What the team do:

Based and coordinated from Alltami Depot, the service delivery team are the front line face of Streetscene Services:  

  • Highway Maintenance operations, including carrying out repairs to potholes that appear in the road, fix gullies, safety barriers and railings, kerb laying, traffic management and setting out road signs.   
  • Provide emergency response to adverse weather events such as flooding, high winds, snow clearance to ensure the safety of highway users on the roads.
  • Grounds maintenance operations, including mowing, strimming, and pruning across grassed areas throughout the county including; tenant’s gardens, verges, parks, cemeteries, football pitches and other open spaces.
  • Waste and Recycling Collections, including collecting household waste and recycling from all properties throughout the County of Flintshire. Provide services for clinical waste collections and deliveries of bins and recycling containers.
  • Household Recycling Centres, including assisting members of the public with disposal of household recycling across 5 sites in, Buckley, Sandycroft, Oakenholt, Greenfield and Mold. 

What you will get involved with:

  • You’ll work alongside experienced members of the Highways Maintenance and commercial team to gain the practical skills and experience of a Streetscene employee.
  • Assist with carrying out Highway Maintenance works both reactive and planned including pot hole repairs, tarmacking, kerbing, traffic management, pipe laying and slurry sealing

Flintshire Trainee – Electrician - Streetscene - Street lighting team

What the team do:

  • Responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of the majority of the County's street lights and maintain lighting on behalf of a number of Community Councils. 
  • Responsible for installation, maintenance and repair of illuminated bollards and road sign lighting.
  • Carry out inspections on all street lights to identify any faults, damage, obstructions to ensure timely rectification.

What you will get involved with:

  • You’ll work alongside experienced members of the Streetlighting team to gain the practical skills and experience of a streetlighting electrician.
  • Assist with carrying out inspections and repairs to street lamps, columns, bollards, sign lighting
  • Assist with the monitoring and recording of streetlighting condition, where required

  • Rotating around 4 areas of the service, you will work alongside members of the team to carry out tasks in Grounds Maintenance, Waste & Recycling collection, Household Recycling Centres and Highways Maintenance to gain the practical skills and experience of a Streetscene employee.
  • You’ll learn how to safely operate tools and equipment including small items Strimmer’s, Mowers, Blowers etc. and progress onto larger items such as Fork Lift Truck and HGV driver where possible into the second year of the apprenticeship programme.
  • Assist with Grounds Maintenance works including maintenance of grassed areas, pruning, maintenance of hedges, shrubs and tidying up debris from the work areas
  • Assist with loading / sorting household waste (wheel bins, recycling sacks etc) on to designated waste vehicles and into the skips provided at Household Recycling Centres.
  • Complete basic paperwork and assist with members of the public enquires.

Qualification

Horticulture Level 2

If the candidate demonstrates the right qualities and aptitude and has passed their driving test – The Council will consider funding training for HGV driver in the last year of the apprenticeship
