Armed Forces Day

The chair of Flintshire County Council Cllr Mared Eastwood was joined by Cllr David Evans, Armed Forces Champion, in a short ceremony outside County Hall, Mold, to raise the Armed Forces flag in support of Armed Forces day. Armed Forces day honours the bravery and commitment of service personnel past and present.
Chair of Flintshire County Council Cllr. Mared Eastwood said:
“Armed Forces Day is a chance to show our support for the people who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets. We know that they also played a role in contributing to the response to the national pandemic; over 5,000 Armed Forces were deployed to support the national response.
We are proud to fly the flag which symbolises our support for the Armed Forces and an opportunity to show thanks in recognition of the sacrifices made by members of our armed forces, whether past or presently serving.”
The Council was awarded the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award in November 2019. The award, the highest in the scheme, recognises the Council’s commitment and ongoing support for the Armed Forces Community, which includes veterans, reservists and their families to ensure they are not unfairly disadvantaged in the workplace.
