LIFT celebrates “Stepping into Childcare”
Published: 13/03/2017
Following an innovative training programme entitled “Stepping into Childcare”,
participants recently received their certificates at a celebration in Flint.
The LIFT programme, developed to support the long term unemployed back into
work, developed the programme in conjunction with the National Day Nurseries
Association (NDNA). The “Stepping into Childcare” training is a pilot project
funded by Welsh Government for Communities First and LIFT clients.
LIFT mentors and tutors from NDNA worked together to establish course
requirements which would meet the needs of learners. The resulting bespoke 8
day course was developed and 12 people have benefitted from the training.
The eight day training programme was made up of 12 main topics, including
sensory play, outdoor play, play and creativity of the under 2s as well as
safeguarding awareness, promoting positive behaviour and food hygiene. The
sessions also included mock interview practice.
Each candidate received a certificate and the awards were presented by
Flintshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Councillor
Derek Butler, who said:
“Being able to run training progammes like this with the support of our
partners is vital for our local economy. We need to invest in local people so
that they can take advantage of employment opportunities in the area. I’m
delighted that this “Stepping into Childcare” course in Flintshire has been
successful and I wish everyone the best of luck for the future.”
