Call to get active for local school
Published: 08/03/2017
Jade Jones Pavilion in Flint is getting involved in a campaign to help raise
money for a local school.
The campaign is called “Let’s Move for a Better World”, which is a global
campaign to fight obesity and sedentary lifestyles. The goal is to engage the
community to come and “donate” their physical activity to help the local
community and embrace a healthier lifestyle.
Anyone can come along and take part by having a go on the new cardiovascular
equipment such as the treadmills, bikes and cross trainers. The more people
involved, the more money will be raised for Maes Hyfryd.
This is the second year that the centre has participated and they have chosen
Maes Hyfryd as they already have a close relationship with the school. Pupils
visit the centre several times each week, including two gym sessions where
fitness staff provide them with a group training session.
Flintshire County Council’s Alan Duppa, organiser of the event, said:
“It’s clear the pupils love coming to the gym as there is always lots of
laughter and they really benefit from the physical activity. It is always a
pleasure to work with the students of Maes Hyfryd. This is why we feel it
would be brilliant if Maes Hyfryd could win the “prizes”. If we can make 3
million moves (as measured by the equipment), the school will win a full ARKE
set - a full package workout set, perfect for children as it is colour coded,
involves group work and is lots of fun.”
The challenge begins on 13 March and will run for 18 days until the end of
March.
