Pride of Flintshire Awards 2016
Published: 24/08/2016
The achievements of children in foster care in Flintshire were celebrated at an
awards ceremony at Mold Rugby Club last month.
Over 230 guests, including looked-after children and young people who have left
care, attended the formal awards ceremony and family fun day hosted by
Flintshire County Council.
Lord Barry Jones opened proceedings along with Chairman of Flintshire County
Council Peter Curtis. Awards were presented by the Cabinet Member for Social
Services, Councillor Christine Jones, Chief Officer for Social Services, Neil
Ayling, Lord and Lady Jones and Councillor Curtis.
Councillor Jones said:
“It was a fabulous day, enjoyed by everyone who attended. The joy on the
recipients’ faces was evident for all to see, as was the pride of their carers
and guests. Everyone who received an award thoroughly deserved it. These
awards really show how well these children are cared for and nurtured by the
families they are with. I love this event - long may it continue. Well done
to everyone involved.”
The formal awards included musical performances from the children themselves
and were followed by fun activities to give the children an enjoyable day to
celebrate and remember.
Awards were presented to children for achieving 100% school attendance, being
sports team captain, supporting charitable causes, law student of the year,
performing at the Eisteddfod. The day also celebrates those children who are
now grown up and successfully living in their own flat, with a job and their
own family, with Special Commendation Awards for Care Leavers and one
outstanding young person receiving the Phoenix Award for successful independent
living.
Local businesses helped to make the event a success by offering their financial
support and supplying prize draw gifts. Flintshire County Council would like
to thank: Dave Cottle Engineering, MPH Construction, Mainetti, Airbus Football
Club, Mold Rugby Club, Westbridge Furniture, TATA Steel, Dee Gas, Vitesse Motor
Company. Synthite, P&A, Bluefin, Rubicon Garden Rooms, Future Studios,
local councillors and individual donors for their generous contributions.
