Flintshire County Council’s Cabinet members will be presented with the next exciting proposals for improving education provision in various areas of the County when they meet on Tuesday 16 March.
Cabinet will be asked to agree the commission a design and build contract for the proposed projects at Ysgol Croes Atti, Y Fflint and Drury County Primary School.
The Croes Atti project is linked closely to the Council’s Welsh Education Strategic Plan and the proposed new Welsh medium school will replace the existing Ysgol Croes Atti, located on Chester Road, in Flint. If agreed by Cabinet, it will be the first new Welsh medium school build by the Council, since its inception in 1996. This proposed project is in addition to the investment project already agreed at Ysgol Croes Atti, Glannau Dyfrdwy.
The other innovative proposal is to remodel Drury County Primary school, addressing suitability and capacity issues which would provide permanent classroom accommodation to replace existing mobile classrooms.
These latest proposals follow other successful projects which have been completed or are in progress as part of the Council’s 21st Century Schools Band B investment programme and other funding streams provided by Welsh Government.
Flintshire County Council’s Leader and Cabinet Member for Education and Youth, Councillor Ian Roberts, said:
“Some fantastic work has already been done with Welsh Government support in various areas of the County, for major school projects in Holywell, Shotton, Penyffordd and Connah’s Quay.
“To ensure that that these exciting projects can progress, it is hoped that Cabinet will agree these proposals within our onward investment programme for schools. This will ensure that work can continue to develop at pace to provide our first new Welsh medium school building since 1996 and significantly improve facilities in Drury Primary School.”
