Garden Waste Collection Service 2021

Published: 18/01/2021

garden-recycling-small.jpgFlintshire County Council is now accepting subscriptions for the garden waste collection service which starts again from 1 March 2021 and runs until 11 December 2021.

Residents can sign up to the scheme at any time throughout the year, but we are encouraging people to subscribe early to ensure that they benefit from the full collection service for the season.

Due to the suspension of garden waste collections in 2020 there are two charges for the service this year to account for those who paid in full but did not receive the full service during its suspension (Mid-March to Mid-June 2020).

Charges are:

Properties who made payments, in full, before 1 June 2020:

• £24.00 for ALL online payments

• £24.00 for payments made on or before 28 February 2021

• £27.00 for payments made on or after 1 March 2021

Properties who made payments, at the reduced rate, on or after 1st June 2020, or those subscribing to the service for the first time:

• £32.00 for ALL online payments

• £32.00 for payments made on or before 28th February 2021

• £35.00 for payments made on or after 1st March 2021

When completing the subscription application form, the system will automatically recognise which rate will apply. Applications can be made by visiting the Council’s website or by calling us on 01352 701234.

2020 was an unprecedented year and the decision to suspend garden waste collections was a very difficult one to make. We have every confidence that the 2021 season will be undisrupted but as the response to the pandemic continues, service priorities will need to be continually reviewed.

Flintshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Streetscene and Countryside, Councillor Carolyn Thomas, said:

“Following a complicated year resulting in temporary suspension of the garden waste collection service due to the COVID restrictions, we are hoping for a less disruptive year ahead. We are encouraging residents to sign up early for this popular service so they benefit from the full collection season.

"All the garden waste collected is composted locally in the County and contributes to achieving our national recycling targets.  The compost produced can be collected free of charge from one of our five Household Recycling Centres.

"Residents are reminded that the garden waste accepted through the service includes grass cuttings, leaves, hedge clippings, twigs, bark, and small branches.  The brown bin cannot be used for fruit and vegetable peelings, food waste, cardboard, paper, soil and rubble or pet litter, animal bedding and animal waste."
