Garden Waste Collection Service 2020

Published: 31/01/2020

Flintshire County Council would like to remind residents to renew their subscriptions for the Council’s garden waste collection service which starts again from 2 March 2020 and runs until mid-December 2020.

Residents can sign up at any time during the year, but we are encouraging people to sign up early to ensure that they benefit from the full collection service for the season, as well as the preferential subscription rate available before 29 February 2020.  Subscriptions before this date or online throughout the season are £32 per bin. After 1 March 2020, the standard rate will be £35 if not paying online.

New customers can sign up to the service at any point by visiting the website or by calling us on 01352 701234; however, the charges will remain the same.

This year, we will be moving to a tag system instead of a sticker for the brown bins for garden waste collections.  The tags are yellow and show the Flintshire “F” logo and a unique serial number.  The tags will be sent directly to residents along with instructions of how to attach the tag to the brown bins.  The tags must be fixed to the handle of the brown bin and be clearly visible to the collection crew, otherwise they may not be collected.  The Council will not empty garden waste bins that do not have a valid tag attached.

Flintshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Streetscene and Countryside, Councillor Carolyn Thomas, said:

“Following a successful year last year, we are encouraging more residents to sign up early for this popular service and benefit from the reduced rate of £32 if they sign up before 29 February or online.  All the garden waste that is collected is composted locally in the County and contributes to our national recycling targets. Last year, we collected over 9,800 tonnes of garden waste and we collect from over 33,000 households.  We want to make sure that we encourage more people to recycle their garden waste.”

All garden waste is composted at our facility in Greenfield, Holywell and people are encouraged to put bark, grass cuttings, leaves, hedge clippings, twigs and small branches in the garden waste bins.  The bins cannot be used for fruit and vegetable peelings, food waste, cardboard, paper, soil and rubble or pet litter, animal bedding and animal waste.
