Elfed High School welcome Minister for Education and Skills

Elfed High School were delighted to welcome the Welsh Government Minister for Education and Skills, Kirsty Williams AM to the school recently.  Other guests included Deputy Leader of the Council, Cllr Carolyn Thomas, Chair of Governors, Mr Richard Cooper and Mrs Vicky Barlow, Senior Manager for School Improvement, Flintshire County Council.

During the visit the Minister had the opportunity to observe a number of activities that formed the school’s skills week.  The visit took in Year 9 students developing their financial literacy skills before dropping in on Year 8 students in the English department.  The Year 8 students were using the school’s outdoor chessboard to illustrate and understand the hierarchical structure in Macbeth.

The Minister also called in on Year 7 students using drama to discuss diversity and Year 9 students in the Science department focussing on the pH scale.

Headteacher, Mr Alistair Stubbs said;

“We are very honoured to have the Minister visit Elfed High School.  We are very proud of our school here in Buckley and it was great to showcase our fantastic students.”

Cllr. Carolyn Thomas, Deputy Leader of Flintshire County Council said;

 “I was very pleased to join the Minister for Education and Skills on her recent visit to the Elfed High School. The warm welcome that was extended to the Minister and the fantastic learning environment that she experienced highlighted the excellent standards of education and learning in Flintshire schools.”
