Work has been completed on 6 new council homes in a development on the site of The Old Dairy, Mold Road, Connah’s Quay.

The council's five-year Strategic Housing and Regeneration Programme (SHARP), which began in summer 2015 in partnership with Wates Residential North. Work on this latest scheme follows the successful completion of schemes across the county providing 82 new council homes and 62 affordable properties at Custom House Court and St. Mark’s Court in Connah’s Quay, Alexandra Court, Mold, Maes y Meillion and Heol y Goron in Leeswood and The Walks, Flint.

The re-development of the former Melrose Centre, Shotton is also underway which will see another 9 new council homes delivered later this year, whilst work will soon commence on sites at Maes Gwern, Mold, Llys Dewi, Penyffordd (Holywell), the former Council Depot, Dobshill and Nant y Gro, Gronant.

Cllr. Aaron Shotton, Leader of Flintshire County Council and Local Member for Connah’s Quay Central Ward said;

“This council's ambitious housing programme has so far delivered over 144 new high quality council and affordable homes and continues to set a national benchmark for quality and design. These developments are at the heart of our local urban and rural communities and will contribute to their sustainability and provide employment opportunities.

"As well as providing new council housing the Old Dairy development has brought new life to a site that had been derelict for many years and has improved the streetscape along the main road through the town.

“However, despite the fantastic progress made so far we must maintain the momentum in our plans to address the demand for social housing and we will continue to press the Welsh Government to increase the council’s borrowing cap so that we are able to build more to meet local need.”

Flintshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing and Local Member for Connah’s Quay Central Ward, Councillor Bernie Attridge, said:

“There is an on-going and urgent need for council housing for affordable rent and as the demand for social and affordable housing in all our communities continues to grow we are determined to provide people with access to social housing of the highest quality.

“The latest development to be completed at The Old Dairy highlights the remarkable progress made in such a short space of time since the council’s housing programme commenced and I am confident that we will continue to build on our success so far.

“As with previous schemes, local lettings policies will be developed by the Council for each of the proposed schemes and we will ensure that the tenure and property mix for each scheme reflects housing need within each community.

Richard Shroll, Managing Director of Wates Residential North, commented:

"Completion of The Old Dairy at Connah’s Quay once again demonstrates the strength of Wates Residential North’s partnership with Flintshire Council and our joint commitment to creating high quality new homes for local people. Our work across Flintshire is really gathering pace and we very much look forward to building on the success to date and bringing much-needed new homes to the county.”
