First 999 Emergency Services Day honoured by Council

Flintshire County Council honoured the first 999 Emergency Services Day by flying the flag at County Hall.

The Chairman of the Council, Councillor Paul Cunningham welcomed everyone to the ceremony by saying:

“We are here to raise the 999 flag at 9am on the 9th day of the 9th month, which explains the earliness of the hour – but we do know that our emergency services never sleep.

“As a former fire-fighter myself, I was pleased to be associated with the United Kingdom’s first Emergency services day, where we can remember the contribution which all of the emergency services: The Ambulance Service, the Coast Guard, the Fire & Rescue Service, the Police and the RNLI make to all our lives.

“On behalf of the people of Flintshire, I would like to thank you for what you do, and ask that you pass those thanks on to your colleagues who are not here today.

“In my capacity as Chair of Council, it would be remiss of me not to mention the role that the County Council also has in many emergencies, very often supporting those who are in the front line.”
