Published: 03/07/2018
The Vice Chairman of Flintshire County Council has helped another Flintshire
resident celebrate a special birthday.
Councillor Marion Bateman and her Consort Councillor Haydn Bateman met Mrs
Ethel Hemmington on 30 June at Marleyfield Residential Care Home, Buckley.
Ethel was born in Deeside. She had four brothers and they were a close
family. Ethel left school and went to work for Hanson Dairy, based in
Liverpool. She worked there for a number of years until it closed down. She
enjoyed working there and they were good people.
She then went to work at Aerospace in Broughton where she met her husband
Harry. They married in 1943 in the St Ethelwold’s Church in Shotton and
settled in Aston Park in Ewloe. They enjoyed going on holidays but never went
abroad together, although Ethel travelled to Australia on her own once. The
enjoyed going for a drink to the Boot public house in Northop.
