Winter fuel support scheme
Published: 12/01/2023
The Welsh Government Fuel Support Scheme is part of a fuel support package to address immediate pressures on living costs.
Eligible households can claim a one-off £200 payment from Flintshire County Council to provide support towards paying their winter fuel bills.
This payment is in addition to the Energy Bill rebate being offered by the UK Government and the Winter Fuel Payment normally paid to pensioners. The payment will be available to all eligible households (one payment per household) regardless of how they pay for their fuel, whether that is, for example, on a pre-payment meter, by direct debit or by paying a bill quarterly and can be claimed regardless of whether they are using on or off-grid fuel.
The scheme is open to households where an applicant or their partner is in receipt of working age means-tested welfare benefits (at any time between the 1 September 2022 and 31 January 2023) including, but not limited to:
- Council Tax Reduction Scheme
- Income Support
- Job Seekers Allowance
- Employment & Support Allowance
- Universal Credit
- Carers Allowance
- Tax Credits and
- Most Disability Benefits

The fastest way to make an application is by applying on the Flintshire County Council website. You will need to provide some basic information to support the claim along with providing details to enable the payment to be made to you via BACS.
All applications must be received by 5pm on 28 February 2023.
Payments for successful applications will be made by the end of March 2022.
