BEM for Flintshire resident
Published: 18/04/2018
The Chairman of Flintshire County Council, Councillor Brian Lloyd, invited a
local resident into County Hall recently to celebrate a wonderful achievement.
Sheila Delahoy from Mold was presented with a British Empire Medal for her
voluntary work spanning 25 years.
Mrs Delahoy has worked selflessly to fundraise for Cancer Research UK and the
Cystic Fibrosis Trust raising around £33,000. Along with her husband, John, she
began raising funds by holding coffee mornings at her home and went onto hold
garden events.
Her fundraising began in 1984 for cystic fibrosis after her niece and
god-daughter Bernice Banner was diagnosed with the chronic condition. She died
in 2003.
In 1988, Mrs Delahoy was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent successful
treatment.
