Armed Forces Liaison Officer will be here for YOU
Published: 12/04/2018
The role of Armed Forces Liaison Officer (AFLO) has been created to strengthen
the delivery of the Armed Forces Community Covenant across the North Wales
region by ensuring the fair and respectful treatment of serving personnel, ex
forces and their families.
The Armed Forces Liaison Officer for Flintshire, Wrexham and Denbighshire, is
Janette Williams and she has been in post since September 2017. The post is
funded for 2 years by the MOD and her role involves:
· Reviewing existing Local Authority policies and procedures in areas
including Human Resources, Social Care, Education and Housing.
· Ensuring the needs of the Armed Forces Community are considered in
new Local Authority strategic plans and service changes.
· Seeking to determine the size and complement of the region’s Armed
Forces Community, and establishing clear lines of communication so that
information can flow to and from community members more effectively.
Janette said of her appointment:
“This role will be both challenging and rewarding and I am looking forward to
working with a variety of partners. My father and husband served in the Royal
Air Force, and I am glad of this opportunity to give something back to the
Armed Forces Community.
“I don’t see my role as only dealing with problems but, of course, where this
is the case it will be my priority. However, I would also love to hear about
opportunities within Flintshire communities for the Armed Forces and local
residents to come together. As part of this work I will attend any events that
give me the chance to raise awareness of the covenant and what it means. I can
also help with any ideas for funding local projects via the MOD covenant fund,
which hopes to support combined activities for all members of the Armed Forces
Community and local residents.”
Flintshire County Council’s Armed Forces Campion, Councillor Andy Dunbobbin,
said:
“It’s great that Janette has been appointed to this role and I am already
working with her to engage with our local communities, businesses and
charitable organisations to support our Armed Forces community, with the aim of
finding and accessing funding opportunities that will benefit them.”
