The Walks

Good progress continues to be made on The Walks housing scheme in Flint, which will see the delivery of 92 council, and affordable rent homes on the site of the former council maisonettes site. The scheme consists of a mix of two and three bed houses along with one and two-bed apartments. The project has recently seen new tenants receiving the keys to the completed apartment block which consists of 24 one and two-bed apartments. The Walks scheme is a key element of the broader Strategic Housing and Regeneration Programme (SHARP) that will see 500 new council and affordable homes delivered across different sites in Flintshire. The scheme is being delivered in partnership with Wates Residential, which is working with the local supply chain and the local council to deliver the programme across Flintshire. The Leader of Flintshire County Council, Cllr Aaron Shotton, alongside Deputy Leader of the Council, Bernie Attridge and Cabinet Member for Housing and local ward Member, Cllr Ian Roberts recently visited the scheme to meet with tenants receiving keys to the new apartment block, which will be named Queen Elizabeth II. Cllr Arron Shotton said: “The development of The Walks is part of a broader regeneration strategy adopted by the Council which, in addition to the new housing, will also see benefit from the development of a new Extra Care Scheme and new Medical Centre in the town. These developments will transform Flint and will create a much improved townscape and provision of new and accessible services in the town centre.” Cllr Bernie Attridge said: “SHARP continues to deliver high quality homes which are much needed in Flint. This Council is committed to delivering the benefits of SHARP to different communities in Flintshire and support the Welsh government in achieving its target of 20,000 new homes across Wales by 2021.” Cllr Ian Roberts, who was also the Chair of the Flint Regeneration Working Group, said: “It is extremely satisfying to see how the vision for the regeneration of Flint is now finally coming to fruition thanks to the commitment and hard work of the local community, working in partnership with the County Council and partner public sector agencies.
