Housing Programme Progress

An update on the next key stages of the Council’s ambitious five-year Strategic Housing and Regeneration Programme (SHARP) will be received by the Community and Enterprise Overview and Scrutiny Committee at a meeting on Wednesday, 14 March. The report will focus on proposals for the development of 92 new social and affordable homes at Llys Dewi, Penyffordd (23 social / 4 affordable), Nant y Gro, Gronant (37 social / 4 affordable) and the former council depot at Dobshill, near Buckley (15 social / 9 affordable). The latest proposals build on the significant progress and success of SHARP since it began in June 2015, with the appointment of Wates Living Space as the council’s development partner. The first scheme saw 12 new council homes completed last year at Custom House Court in Connah’s Quay. The construction of 92 new homes at The Walks, Flint (30 council / 62 affordable) is nearing completion whilst work on the construction of 40 new council homes on five sites at Connah’s Quay, Mold and Leeswood is well advanced with properties at Redhall, Connah’s Quay and Heol y Goron Leeswood already completed and let. Construction work on the site of the former Dairy off Mold Road, Connah’s Quay commenced in November 2017, whilst the re-development of the former Melrose Centre, Shotton is scheduled to begin in March 2018. These schemes will see the delivery of 15 new homes later this year. Other potential sites for development have been identified at Maes Gwern, Mold (planning application approved), Borough Grove, Flint, the former Canton Depot, Bagillt, Llys Alun, Rhydymwyn and land at Sealand Avenue, Garden City. Cllr. Aaron Shotton, Leader of the Council said; “Over 200 council, social and affordable homes have been completed, are under construction or have been agreed in principle since the Council’s ambitious housing programme began. These developments are at the heart of our local urban and rural communities and will contribute to their sustainability and provide employment opportunities. “I am confident that we will continue to build on our success so far and that this council’s vision and ambition to provide 500 social and affordable homes by 2020 will be realised.” Cllr. Bernie Attridge, Cabinet Member for Housing said; “This council’s determination and commitment to provide much-need high quality social and affordable housing across Flintshire is underlined by the fantastic progress made to date. “As with previous schemes, local lettings policies will be developed by the Council for each of the proposed schemes and we will ensure that the tenure and property mix for each scheme reflects housing need within each community.”
