Open Doors - behind the scenes at the Old Rectory and Hawarden Village Trail
Published: 30/08/2017
SATURDAY 23 SEPTEMBER 2017, 10am to 2pm
On Saturday 23 September 2017, Flintshire Record Office, based at the Old
Rectory, Hawarden, is taking part in ‘Open Doors’, a Wales-wide event organised
by Cadw.
Open Doors offers both local people and visitors alike the chance to explore
the hidden treasures of Wales’s culture and history.
The Old Rectory is an 18th century building set within its own grounds, which
was home to the Rectors of Hawarden for centuries. For the past 60 years it has
housed Flintshire Record Office, which preserves the countys unique archival
heritage and makes it available to the public.
The Open Doors event will include an exhibition about historic buildings in
Hawarden (including the Old Rectory) ‘then’ and ‘now’. There will be
behind-the-scenes tours of the Old Rectory to see the strongrooms, where the
County’s historic archives are kept, and a chance to see some of the oldest and
rarest items in our collections.
You can visit the Conservation studio to see how precious and sometimes fragile
archives are preserved for future generations. There will also be a fascinating
guided walk around Hawarden village following an historic buildings trail, led
by a knowledgeable member of staff.
Come and see what amazing facts you could find out about your family, house, or
local history at Flintshire Record Office!
