Time to Strip the Shelves
Published: 27/01/2017
Flintshire libraries will be showcasing a number of artists during February in
a collaboration between Arts, culture and Events and Libraries.
They will be “stripping” some of their shelves of books to make room for 3D art
pieces with the aim of bringing art closer to our residents.
The idea behind this unique series of exhibitions is to emphasise that art does
not need to be seen in a particular place, that it is everywhere and is here to
enjoy.
The four artists’ work will be on display at four of the county’s libraries:
Flint, Buckley, Deeside Library and Mold.
Katie Scarlett Howard is a sculptor who makes ceramic figures, predominantly
based on the female form. Her work is made based on cylindrical tubes made in
Crank Clay. Her work will be on display at Flint Library 30 January to 20
February. There will also be a workshop during the afternoon of 2 February.
Ticky Lowe will have an exhibition of her “Floral Deconstruction” work at
Deeside Library 1-20 February with a workshop on 15 February in the afternoon.
Mandy Coates’ work will be displayed at Buckley Library 1-20 February, with a
workshop on 14 February in the afternoon. Mandy has been basket making for
over 25 years and her designs are creative and contemporary.
Cefyn Burgess is a textile artist and his displays will be exhibited at Mold
Library between 3 and 20 February with a workshop on 6 February in the
afternoon.
All workshops will run from 2pm to 6:30pm.
Flintshire County Council Cabinet Member for Education and Youth, Councillor
Chris Bithell, said:
I am proud that Flintshire County Councils Arts, Culture and Events team and
our Libraries service are continuing to create new ways to support such
artistic talent - showcasing their work in places that you wouldn’t usually
expect to find it. Art is for everyone and the workshops will be more like an
“artist in residence” where people can observe the artist at work and have a
go.”
