Dementia Cafe Christmas celebration
Published: 21/12/2016
People with dementia and their carers recently attended the inaugural Memory
Cafe Ball held at the Clocktower in Mostyn.
All the people from the six memory cafés and residents of care homes in the
county were invited.
Flintshire County Council Cabinet Member for Social Services, Councillor
Christine Jones, said:
“It’s great to see so many people here today. This is a real celebration of
what we have achieved this year – working with communities to provide help and
support for residents of Flintshire. We’re also looking forward to the great
work planned for 2017 for Dementia Services in Flintshire.”
As guests arrived, they were welcomed by Cllr Jones and she introduced singer,
Sharon Wallace, who encouraged everyone to get up and practise their “strictly”
ballroom dancing.
During the afternoon, volunteers provided drinks and a buffet for the guests.
The event was supported by communities and organisations within Flintshire,
including Communities First, NEWCIS, Dementia Friendly Flint Steering Group and
all those involved with the Memory Cafes.
Councillor Jones continued:
“Donations of transport, use of the hall, cutlery and crockery, food, drink and
all the other wonderful things which made this event so special were given by
many organisations – special thanks go to Wates Living Space, Jones the
Gardeners, St Mary’s Church and the Immaculate Conception RC Church in Flint,
Windmill Day Services, the Clocktower and all the many volunteers without whom
an event like this would not be possible.”
