Published: 09/11/2021

Following five successful years of trading, a Flintshire based social enterprise has expanded into Wrexham.

Beyond the Boundaries CIC, who won the City and Guilds Gold Award for training, has been invited to replicate their services in Wrexham. The Caia Park Partnership has invited Jill to open a salon in their premises in Caia Park. Work on preparing the purpose built salon is now complete and will be officially opened on 9 November.

Beyond the Boundaries CIC operates a hair and beauty salon with a difference, it has been specifically developed by Jill Smith, the founder, to create meaningful work placements in a real life work environment for young people with additional needs.

Treatments available to members of the public, and priced at half the market price to reflect the fact that the staff are undergoing training, includes; hairdressing, Swedish massage, aromatherapy massage, Indian head massage, hot stones massage, manicure and pedicure, aesthetics, eyelash treatments and baby massage.

The young people who attend Beyond the Boundaries salon have the opportunity to gain the work and life skills and accredited qualifications as well as the transferrable independent living skills to improve their quality of life as well as secure gainful employment.

With a great track record of working in partnership with agencies and organisations such as Communities 4 Work, Department of Work and Pensions, Flintshire County Council Social Services and third sector partners, six of Jill’s placements have gone on to secure paid employment.

Flintshire’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Councillor Derek Butler, said:

“We have a thriving social economy here in Flintshire, which we are very proud of. It’s fantastic the see the models of best practice developed in Flintshire being adopted by neighbouring counties.”

To coincide with national Social Enterprise Day, Beyond the Boundaries is showcasing their services at an event at Ty Calon, Chester Road West (opposite Deeside Leisure Centre) at an event on 11 November where they will be launching free training aimed at supporting people to develop the skills to join the job market.

Beyond the Boundaries has also developed a new website which features the opportunity for people to book onto courses as well as beauty treatments trainingbeyondtheboundaries.co.uk.
