School Modernisation needs your views

Published: 13/07/2016

Flintshire County Council is committed to continuing to modernise the County’s schools to ensure the provision of a high performing education system offering improved learning provision and increased opportunities to our young residents. The Council is now reviewing education provision in the following three schools: Brynford C.P. School, Lixwm C.P. School and Ysgol Rhos Helyg, Rhosesmor and wants to encourage all interested parties to have their say on which option of three (which were agreed with the governing bodies of all 3 schools last year) they prefer: Option 1: Status Quo Option 2: Area School on One Site Option 3: Retain Ysgol Rhos Helyg, Rhosesmor and one Area School on one site. The council is keen to meet and discuss the views of all interested parties and have already worked closely with pupils of all schools to get their initial views. Flintshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Councillor Chris Bithell, said: “As a forward-looking and proactive Council, we want to ensure education provision is both high quality and sustainable. It’s important that we have the highest quality school buildings and facilities while providing the right number of places in the right locations. In these times of economic uncertainty, we need to recognise that doing nothing means higher pupil teacher ratios throughout the County as funding reduces. We must also ensure that we maximise external funding through the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools Programme.” Informal consultation on the options for the area started on 1 July and will run until 5 August 2016. Cllr Bithell continues: “The Council wants your views which will be presented, along with all the Impact Appraisal documents (which are available to view on our website), to the Council’s Cabinet. Cabinet will carefully consider your views and documentation.” Your responses can be given: · Placed in the School Modernisation Postbox at your school · By completing a questionnaire on-line at: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/ASRLBR · By filling in a response form and return it to the School Modernisation Team, Education and Youth, County Hall, Mold, Flintshire CH7 6ND; or · Alternatively put your responses/questions in writing to the School Modernisation Team, Education and Youth, County Hall, Mold, Flintshire, CH7 6ND or Email: 21stcenturyschools@flintshire.gov.uk.
