A group of young people from a school in Mold has won a business competition
after setting up their own company.
A team of Year 12 students from Alun School, Mold, entered the North Wales
Young Enterprise competition held in Rhyl with their company Decoslate.
As part of a young enterprise school group they form a company and run it
exactly as if it were a trading business. Decoslate makes household items out
of Welsh slate and the team won Best Company Report and Best Overall Company in
the competition.
They will go on to represent the North East Wales Company programme at the all
Wales final in Cardiff in June.
Head teacher of Alun School, Ashley Jones said: “It is terrific that this team
of students have kept up our proud record of success in Young Enterprise
competitions and we wish them every success as they go forward to compete in
the national final.”
Councillor Chris Bithell, Cabinet Member for Education said: “The pupils in the
team have shown real initiative and come up with a great idea for a company.
Mirroring everyday business situations is good training for the world of work
and combines education with entrepreneurial skills. Young Enterprise is fully
supported by Flintshire County Council and I wish them lots of luck for the
final.”
