Come and celebrate at Greenfield Valley!
Published: 03/03/2016
Greenfield Valley Trust, in partnership with Flintshire County Council, has
organised a clean-up day in March at the site which is a valuable community
resource for leisure and education.
Cllr Bernie Attridge, Cabinet member for Environment, said, “Greenfield Valley
is a 70 acre site which encompasses 7 Scheduled Ancients Monuments, 5 pools,
woodlands and open areas. Running down the 1.5 mile valley are the remains of a
railway track which closed in 1957. The track bed gives pedestrian access from
Holywell to Greenfield free from traffic. At the lower end of the valley is the
Greenfield Valley museum.
“The Council and its partners are encouraging local people to help to clean up
and enhance the area which is popular with tourists and locals alike.”
Gwladys Harrison, Environment and Wildlife portfolio holder for the Greenfield
Valley Trust, said, “A clean-up day has been organised for 18 March. The
clean-up will start from 9am and from 3:30 – 5:30pm, we have arranged some fun
activities, including music, pony rides, morris dancers and a bouncy castle.
“Greenfield Valley Day is an idea that came from the annual Big Dee Day event.
I wanted the local community to take pride in our area and to clean up of the
site before the opening of new facilities. To achieve this goal Tesco in
Holywell and Kingspan Insulated Panels in Greenfield have been extremely
supportive and are providing assistance in the removal and disposal of rubbish
left in our beautiful area. Flytipping is a major problem.”
The clean-up comes ahead of the re-opening of the Valley and Museum which has
been improved over the winter thanks to a Heritage Lottery Fund grant of £1
million, secured by Flintshire County Council and the Greenfield Valley Trust.
The Trust is inviting the local community to come along on 18 March and come
and enjoy the festivities and see the work that has been done to improve this
local beauty spot.
