Wepre Park project
Published: 02/02/2016
Volunteers have recently joined forces with Flintshire County Council’s
Countryside Rangers to undertake a variety of tasks in Wepre Park over the
winter period.
The work will include clearing sections of invasive Cherry Laurel and
undertaking terrestrial habitat work around Great Crested Newt ponds and
coppice sections of hazel.
The volunteers are from ARCH, CAIS and Wrexham Glyndwr University and the
project has been made possible through Glyndwr University’s A Degree of
Responsibility (ADOR) initiative which is funded by the National Lottery. Lucy
Jones, the Universitys Work Experience Officer and ADOR Project Co-ordinator
said: “The volunteer project is aimed at strengthening the abilities and
confidence of our students and wider society by creating work experience
opportunities within the community.”
Ramsey Morsy, Health and Wellbeing Facilitator at ARCH, said: “Through
activities such as these we can motivate our customers to learn how to make
decisions, set goals and cope with stress and emotions. Working alongside
experienced Countryside Rangers will also give them the ability to learn a
variety of new skills and I am pleased that so many of our customers have been
keen to take up this opportunity.”
Councillor Bernie Attridge, Flintshire County Councils Cabinet Member for the
Environment, said: “I am delighted to support this new initiative within Wepre
Park. I am sure that all of the volunteers involved with this project will find
the experience invaluable”.
Volunteer Project days will be held up until the end of March.
