Free Driving Assessments for Over 65’s
Published: 02/09/2015
Older drivers in Flintshire are being invited to take up the offer of a free
driving assessment.
Flintshire County Council’s Road Safety Unit is offering a free driving session
to residents who are 65 and over, to help them adapt their driving style to
stay safe and confident on the road as they get older.
Specially trained driving instructors from Wales Mobility and Driving
Assessment Service carry out the assessments and provide advice and information
to help older people stay behind the wheel for longer.
Councillor Bernie Attridge, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment,
said:
“I would encourage our residents over 65 to take up this opportunity for a free
driving session. As we get older, we may experience changes which can affect
how we drive. These can include slower reaction times and taking longer to make
decisions. Driving can also be more tiring and stressful. Some drivers notice
such changes as early as their mid-fifties. As they get older, most people can
carry on driving safely and without problems, but this is easier to do with
some help from a driving professional.”
The driving assessments involve a door to door service.
