Local residents to receive important voter registration information
Published: 07/08/2015
Households in Flintshire will have received a form asking residents to check
whether the information that appears on the electoral register for that address
is correct as part of Flintshire’s annual canvass of households.
The aim is to ensure that the electoral register is up to date, and to identify
any residents who are not registered so that they can be encouraged to do so.
With important National Assembly of Wales and Police and Crime Commissioner
elections taking place in May 2016, this is an early opportunity for residents
to make sure that they will be able to take part.
Colin Everett, Electoral Registration Officer at Flintshire said:
“Anyone that wants to vote must be registered. To make sure you are able to
have your say at the elections next year, simply check the form when it
arrives, if your details haven’t changed you can reply by free phone, internet
or by text”. If your details have changed you can update this information by
visiting www.registerbyinternet.com/flintshire. Alternatively you can post the
form back to us. Please respond by the 17 August, to save us money and we will
not send you a reminder”.
“If you’re not currently registered, we’ll send information explaining how to
do this, or you can submit an application to register online at
www.gov.uk/register-to-vote”
“It’s particularly important that anyone who has moved address recently looks
out for this information to ensure that they are registered”.
Rhydian Thomas, Head of Wales Office at the Electoral Commission said:
“The annual canvass is an opportunity for people to check whether they’re
registered. It’s essential for a healthy democracy that everyone who is
entitled to vote is able to so, and that voter registration is easier than ever
with the online system of registration.”
“If you have changed address in the last year, it’s likely that you will need
to register at your new address, so be sure to check the form as soon as it
arrives.”
