Buckley town centre improvement scheme

Work will begin in the New Year on improvements to create an attractive multi-functional space in the heart of Buckley Town Centre. The works are due to start on 12 January 2015 and are planned to be completed by mid March 2015. Alterations and improvements are being made to the Brunswick Road Car Park. The works will improve this area by creating a more attractive and usable space for holding a range of events, whilst enabling the area to remain as a key car park for most of the time. This Streetscape and Access improvement scheme is part of the North East Wales Town Centre Regeneration Project. This project has been part funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government. Bespoke seating will also be installed to reflect some of the history of the town. Truck seats are being made based on clay tipping trucks recovered in 2005 from a pond on the common and renovated by members of the Buckley Society (www.buckleysociety.org.uk). Such trucks were in common use in brickworks quarries around the town and are a key part of the history of Buckley. Several brick columns also form part of the improvements and it is hoped they will also showcase some of the town’s brick making history by including some original bricks from the town. Disruption during the improvement works will be kept to a minimum but please note that a large section of the Brunswick Road Car Park will not be available for parking whilst these works take place. Town centre parking will still be available at the rear of The Precinct. Council Officers and representatives from the works contractor will be on hand in The Precinct (at the Town Council cabin) on Thursday 8 January 2015 from 4pm to 6.30pm to discuss any concerns or queries local residents or businesses may have before work begins. Councillor Derek Butler, Cabinet Member for Economic Development said: The Council is committed to supporting town centres in Flintshire and has secured European and Welsh Government funding to improve their appearance. These improvements to Buckley will improve this central space which will be utilised more for events and create an enhanced public realm. We are also asking anyone who has any Buckley bricks that they would like included in the improvement works (in the brick columns) to please bring them to the Town Council Offices on Mold Road as soon as possible.
