Changes to the structure of the Regional Safeguarding Children’s Board will be outlined at a Cabinet meeting on Thursday (16 October). The organisation will have a new name, the North Wales Safeguarding Children’s Board (NWSCB) and work across the six county councils in North Wales with a strong commitment towards a local presence in each of the original regional areas. Safeguarding Children Boards use a partnership approach to safeguard, protect and promote the welfare of children and young people. A report commissioned by Welsh Government in 2014 concluded that the benefits of this re-structure would result in: • Reduced duplication • Greater practice consistency • More effective collaboration • Standardised safeguarding systems Cabinet members will also be asked to agree that Conwy act as the temporary host authority until a permanent arrangement is confirmed for April 2015. Councillor Christine Jones, Cabinet Member for Social Services said: “Flintshire County Council is committed to the collaborative and partnership building approach of the new safeguarding structure. “Extensive national and regional research has concluded that the proposals will enhance the Local Authority and our partners in ensuring that safeguarding remains a central core of our commitment to protect and ensure children are kept safe.”
