The Digital Squad are here!
Published: 14/03/2024
Digital inclusion is a priority at Flintshire County Council and it’s committed to ensuring residents of Flintshire are not excluded from a digital world.
The Council has recently launched its innovative service for residents of Flintshire where volunteers from across the organisation, the Digital Support Squad, provide face to face support to give people confidence to use digital technology free of charge.
The first of the digital surgeries was held on Friday 8 March at Holywell Connects. Mr and Mrs Roberts from Cilcain were two of the first visitors who use their device to stay connected with their family and had almost given up hope of getting re-connected until the Digital Support Squad resolved the issue.
They were delighted with the support they received.
Mr Roberts said: “You don’t know how much trouble this has caused me, you’ve been wonderful, thank you.”
Mrs Roberts was equally delighted after enduring Mr Roberts’ “moaning” for some time!
Councillor Billy Mullin, Cabinet Member for Governance and Corporate Services said: “This is a brilliant initiative for our communities, helping our residents to access digital devices and services, giving them the skills and confidence to engage with an increasingly digital world. I look forward to our Digital Support Squad extending the support across the county.”
The Digital Support Squad can help with several things including money, health, social, employment, communication as well as:
• Accessing the internet and emails
• Keeping in touch with family and friends
• Learning about things of interest
• Supporting friends, family or neighbours who are less digitally savvy
