Zip wire challenge
Published: 29/08/2014
The Chair of Flintshire County Council, Councillor Glenys Diskin is hoping to
raise money for her chosen charities on the longest zip wire in Europe.
She will be taking part in her zip wire challenge at Zip World Titan, Llechwedd
Slate Caverns in Blaenau Ffestiniog which is 500ft up in the air with over 8km
of wire, travelling at speeds of 60mph over moors, mountains, quarries and old
mine workings.
Councillor Diskin, who is currently undergoing treatment for Non-Hodgkin
lymphoma, will take to the wire on Saturday 6 September to raise money for the
British Heart Foundation and Prostate Cancer Research Centre.
Councillor Diskin said: “I’m going through treatment myself at the moment so I
know what it’s like living with cancer. I wanted to do something different to
raise money for charity so decided on the zip wire.
“There are four of us doing it, my daughter Linda Diskin, Noel Barnes, the
Broughton and Bretton community council clerk and his wife Lynn. I’m a little
bit apprehensive but really looking forward to it.”
