Trainee Graduation
Published: 12/08/2014
Council leaders have congratulated employees at the annual awards ceremony for
Flintshire County Council trainees who have successfully completed or are
working towards their apprenticeships.
Out of 68 trainees, 20 apprentices graduated from their programme at the event
at Coleg Cambria on Wednesday 30 July and many will now move on to full time
jobs or university. As well as gaining their qualifications the trainees also
raised money for the college charity and presented a cheque for £504.60 to the
college.
Each year, Flintshire County Council offers apprenticeships in departments
across the organisation giving people of all ages the opportunity to gain
qualifications whilst building their practical skills and experience in the
workplace. The strong partnership between the Council and Coleg Cambria means
that 84 per cent of apprentices go into employment and at least four per cent
go on to university or professional training.
Collaboration with Coleg Cambria means the Council can offer apprenticeships in
administration, ICT, accountancy, plumbing, electrical, joinery, plastering,
building, environmental conservation, engineering, catering, horticulture,
warehousing, beauty and countryside management.
Colin Everett, Flintshire County Council’s Chief Executive said: “Our
apprenticeship programme is an excellent way for us to develop employees with
the skills and experience needed. Apprentices get hands on experience and on
the job training as well as gaining industry recognised qualifications.”
Aaron Shotton, Leader of the Council said: “The hard work and dedication to
public service shown by our current apprentices is truly inspirational. The
Council is committed to the continued development and creation of quality
apprenticeships, the recent awards ceremony was a fantastic way to celebrate
the success of our current apprentices and we look forward to welcoming new
apprentices onto the programme in the autumn.
Coleg Cambria Deputy Principal Ian Dickson, who attended the event on behalf of
the college, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with
Flintshire County Council’s Apprenticeship scheme. The awards ceremony is a
great way to celebrate success and we look forward to welcoming new apprentices
onto the programme.”
