Community Asset Transfer

The Council’s Cabinet will hear about two authority buildings that have recently been transferred from Flintshire County Council to local groups to run for the community at a meeting on Tuesday (15 April). A formal 25 year lease of the village hall at Carmel, Holywell is to be taken on by the Carmel Village Hall Committee as a community asset transfer. After some initial repairs paid for by the Council, the community group will be responsible for a full repairing and insuring lease which was approved in February. A transfer of the authority’s freehold of Buckley Baths to charitable trust, The Old Buckley Baths Community Hall Ltd in conjunction with Buckley Town Council was agreed last October. Councils have the option to transfer buildings and land to community or charitable groups to run for the benefit of the community and both Flintshire’s transfers were approved by the Council’s Corporate Asset Management Group. Councillor Bernie Attridge, Cabinet Member for Environment said: “Community asset transfers are a way of keeping buildings that may otherwise have closed due to lack of funding, open and running for the benefit of local residents. We are pleased that two community groups were interested in taking over the baths and the village hall and that these buildings will continue to be used for the public good. “The Council is a great supporter of charity and community groups and social enterprises that run businesses to give back to the community and these two historic buildings are a great example of the community rallying round and helping others enjoy them for years to come.”
