20mph - Phase 1 Settlement Scheme - Buckley

Outcomes available

Responses have been analysed and are published below

In the lead-up to the introduction of the Welsh Government’s new legislation for 20mph speed limits, eight communities across Wales were selected for the first phase of the national programme.

As part of this Phase One Settlement Programme, 20mph speed restrictions were introduced in Buckley, Mynydd Isa, New Brighton, Drury, Burntwood, Bryn y Baal and Alltami on 28 February 2022.

Generally in favour of 20mph on residential estates and around schools, local people expressed concern about its introduction on main roads and streets (key arterial routes).

Aware of these concerns, discussions between Flintshire County Council and Welsh Government took place and the Council gathered the views of local residents to help inform a review and understand concerns about specific roads.

Outcomes

Committed to publishing the findings of this review by the end of March 2023 this page contains:

  • the general overview of the feedback from the public engagement events and household survey
  • the outcomes of the Council’s reassessment of local roads in Buckley and the surrounding area

Lessons learned by the Council during this Phase One Settlement Programme will now be incorporated into its planning for the national rollout of 20mph on 17 September 2023.

The feedback collected and the outcomes of the Council’s reassessment of local roads have also been passed to Welsh Government for its consideration.
