Wi-fi and the various versions of mobile connectivity which include 5G, 4G and 3G are technologies used to provide connections to mobile phones, laptops and tablets. These technologies are used throughout the world and enable users to work, learn and interact with information wherever a signal is received.
5G is the fifth generation of mobile connectivity technology, as with previous generations (3G and 4G), 5G uses the radio spectrum. The radio spectrum supports all the wireless services used by people and businesses every day, including making a mobile phone call, listening to the radio or going online using wi-fi.
The UK Government founded the Advisory Group for Non-Ionising Radiation (AGNIR) to provide advice and guidance on matters relating to the non-ionising radiation generated by these technologies.
The AGNIR produced a series of risk assessments upon which government advice was issued. As a result, Flintshire County Council follows the advice issued by Public Health Wales.
An excerpt from the guide below indicates the interpretation of the risk.
"Based on the evidence and expert advice, members of the public do not need to take any special steps to reduce exposure to the low levels of radio waves from wi-fi networks and equipment (for example, as used in public settings), smart meters or mobile phone base stations".
Further information is available on the UK Government’s website.
“There is no consistent evidence to date that exposure to radio signals from wi-fi and WLANs adversely affects the health of the general population”.
If you have any enquires relating to these technologies, contact the UK government's Advisory Group for Non-Ionising Radiations.
