Planning for the Future

Plans for towns can take many forms.  They can include, for example:

  • Community-led plans setting out local aspirations and programmes of work;
  • Green infrastructure and active travel plans;
  • Masterplans setting out physical change for a site and steering future development;
  • Investment plans led by the business community to increase economic activity;
  • Overarching town centre strategies to set direction of travel and co-ordinate work programmes; and
  • Land use plans.

Plans can be led by: the local community; businesses, town and community councils or by the County Council.  All plans, though, should involve a broad cross section of stakeholders in their development.  Plans can play a vital role in establishing a shared purpose, facilitating joint working, securing resources and monitoring progress made.
